THE SCHLIP MILES FOR MELANOMA WALK 2006 RECAP Events

   In May – to raise awareness and educate the public about the seriousness of Melanoma – Teams in 8 different cities across the country “Took a Step for Melanoma” during our 2nd Annual - The Schlip Miles for Melanoma Walk. Click here for photos of the event.

   In total, the teams netted over $30,000 for Melanoma Cancer Research and Awareness – a 200% increase over last year’s event.  

   The 1st Annual Walk was held in Dallas, TX. This year’s event was expanded to 8 additional cities across the country – thus, increasing awareness about the disease… and donations to fund grants.

   The additional cities included: St. Petersburg, FL; Bloomington, IL; Bellbrook, OH; Sugar Grove, OH; Salem, OR; Galveston, TX; Lubbock, TX; and Milwaukee, WI. 

   Two of the locations dedicated their walks in loving memory of Melanoma Warriors who had lost their battles with the beast…

            .  Dallas, TX walk was dedicated to the loving memory of Stacy Glidwell Dunham Martinez who lost her battle at 38 years young

            .  St. Petersburg, FL walk was dedicated to the loving memory of Christy Lynn O’Keefe who lost her battle at 32 years young.

   Kathy Rattenbury from Odenton, MD came to Dallas and hosted an Azante Jewelry Fundraiser for Melanoma in conjunction with the Walk. The fundraiser was dedicated to the loving memory of her mother Marlene Bluemling. It was the 10 year anniversary of her mother’s death from Melanoma.
